Breaking News: Men Convicted of Plot to Attack Manchester Jewish Community
Two men, Walid Saadaoui, 38, and Amar Hussein, 52, have been found guilty of planning a gun attack on the Jewish community in Manchester. The plot, described as "Isis-inspired," aimed to cause "untold harm" to the community. The men arranged for guns to be smuggled into the UK between December 13, 2023, and May 9, 2024.
The main instigator, Walid Saadaoui, is believed to have planned the attacks, which could have potentially been the deadliest terrorist attack in UK history. The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed the severity of the plot.
Background investigations revealed that the men had a "visceral dislike" of Jewish people and were planning the attacks with a third man, known as Farouk, who was actually an undercover operative. Saadaoui's younger brother, Bilel Saadaoui, 36, has been convicted of failing to disclose information about the acts of terrorism.
The convictions come as a significant blow to the perpetrators and a relief to the Manchester Jewish community. The GMP has praised the efforts of the undercover operative and the police team for their role in foiling the plot.
This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
